who we are

Our mission is to transform lives impacted by domestic violence.

Our mission is to transform lives impacted by domestic violence.

Sojourner Family Peace Center is the largest nonprofit provider of domestic violence prevention and intervention services in Wisconsin, serving nearly 8,000 clients each year. Established in 1975, Sojourner provides an array of support aimed at helping families affected by domestic violence achieve safety, justice and well-being.

Our primary goals are to ensure the safety of victims of family violence and provide a pathway out of violence for victims and abusers through opportunities to make positive and lasting changes for themselves and their children.

In 2022, 14,563 nights of shelter were provided in Sojourner Truth House to women, children, and men fleeing violence, and more than 12,000 calls were made to our 24-hour domestic violence hotline. The vast majority of our clients live in Milwaukee’s poorest neighborhoods on the north and south sides of the city.

RESPECT
We honor those we serve, our colleagues and communities through empathy, dignity, and trust.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
At Sojourner, we recognize that our differences make us stronger and that we can learn from each other. Therefore, we insist on an inclusive and welcoming environment, and will tolerate nothing less. We all share in the responsibility to safeguard inclusion, dignity, and respect for all.

LEADERSHIP & ACCOUNTABILITY
We are all leaders. As such, we take full responsibility for our actions. Leaders honor commitments with intention, self-awareness, and pride.

COURAGE
We do what is right, even when it’s hard. We take risks and give others the opportunity to do the same. We recognize that words and actions matter. We recognize the absence of words and actions also matters.

INTEGRITY
We operate with honesty, transparency, and the highest of ethical standards in all that we do.
