Know your rights: Survivors may keep certain information confidential on election poll lists
Domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking survivors have confidentiality rights regarding information disclosed on poll lists, per Wisconsin state law.
The law covers anyone who has been granted a protective order that is in effect, has a signed affidavit verifying they were a victim and continues to be threatened, lives in a shelter or submits a statement signed by a representative of a domestic abuse or sexual assault service provider, such as Sojourner.
If eligible, the survivor’s name and address is not disclosed on the poll list, but instead, the voter presents a voter identification card with a unique identification serial number given by the municipal clerk.
