We believe volunteers and interns strengthen our agency as a whole and significantly expand our reach to the clients we serve.
Please Note: Sojourner does not offer court-ordered community service opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years of age or older, and pass a background check
All volunteers must submit a completed application

Must be dependable — this work demands a strong commitment to serving clients and protecting their safety
Must be available for hours/shifts listed in the opportunity applied for
Standard length of commitment is six months, up to one year

Children’s Program Drop-in and Support Group Volunteer (2-4 hrs. a week on Mon. and/or Wed. 3-5:30 pm)

Groups are limited to six people for onsite opportunities
Agency Needs
Monday – Friday
2-3 hour shifts between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Tasks will be chosen based on the needs of the agency but could include: Tidying Shelter and Pantry storage areas
Administrative projects
Help process in-kind donations
Unload and organize groceries from Hunger Task Force Delivery
Cards and Posters of Encouragement
Create signs with uplifting quotes or create cards with words of encouragement that we can hang on a bulletin board or give to clients or staff. Click on the Group Service Project link for details
Volunteer-Provided Meal Options
Help provide healthy and comforting meals to residents staying in our emergency shelter. All meals are prepared offsite following Food & Safety Guidelines. We ask that volunteers plan to feed about 60 people. Once the volunteer-provided meal is scheduled, you will receive a full set of meal guidelines.
Volunteer Meal options include:
Peace Dinners
o A group of no more than 6 volunteers will serve their prepared meal to shelter residents
o Available on Sundays and Mondays for Dinner
Meal Drop-off
o Prepare a meal offsite or order food for 60 and drop it off for dinner
o Available on Sundays and Mondays
Lunch Kits
o Lunch kits provided by volunteers offer convenient and healthy lunches to residents staying in our emergency shelter who may need a meal on-the-go.
o Prepare 60 paper bag lunches
o Available to be dropped off on Mondays and Thursdays

Internships
Must be 18 years of age or older, and pass a background check
Must submit a completed application
Fall/Spring 2024-25 internships are full in all departments.
Please check in with us early/spring 2025 for Fall/Spring 2025-2026 opportunities. Internship commitments are per semester or per school year based on the training involved and education adviser requirements.
We ask all interns to commit to the respective timeframes of the role for which they are applying. This work demands a strong commitment to serving clients and protecting their safety.
