Hope Rises, original art created in Sojourner’s children’s program

Sojourner partners with Artists Working in Education (AWE) and their artist-in-residence program where local artists create large-scale works of art with Milwaukee youth. We’ve worked with AWE since 2018 and just completed our second piece, Hope Rises pictured below.

Hope Rises was inspired by the Camp HOPE curriculum and was created by Sojourner’s resident (shelter) and community children with help from three local artists. The kids were involved in every step – from sketching ideas, to mixing grout, to gluing tiles. Hope Rises will be installed outside the Sherman Phoenix building this fall.

Thanks to a grant from the MPS Partnership for the Arts & Humanities, we can continue the AWE partnership and make even more beautiful art in our children’s program.
