A walk to remember
On Saturday, October 2nd, LaVerne Badger and Natalie Hayden, survivors of domestic violence who met while serving on Sojourner’s VOICES committee, hosted a city-wide, DV-awareness 5k walk/run to advocate prevention, raise awareness and to educate the community.
Survivors, allies, community partners, volunteers, advocates and sponsors all gathered for a day of remembering those we’ve lost to domestic violence and advocating for change. They rallied around the hashtag #LetHerLive and spoke to the current state of emergency many victims of domestic violence are currently experiencing.
They also signed petitions in support of a proposed purple alert system in Milwaukee, which would expedite the process of filing missing person reports for domestic violence victims.
This event, like the podcast they co-host to discuss life after domestic violence (ExPOSED the Podcast), was all about elevating the courage and voices of survivors to share hope, create change and promote peace in our community.
Thank you, Natalie and LaVerne, for your courageous work to support survivors, bring people together, and advocate for change.
