Sojourner Family Peace Center Statement on Supreme Court Decision in United States v. Rahimi
The ruling confirms that domestic abusers subject to restraining orders do not have a constitutional right to own guns
“With this ruling, the Supreme Court has made clear the country’s commitment to the safety of domestic violence survivors. The law at the center of this has been in effect for decades with overwhelming support from the public and legislators alike as a common sense approach to keeping deadly firearms out of the hands of abusers, without taking away the rights of law abiding citizens. This ruling affirms that support at the highest level. We applaud the Court’s decision and will continue to push for legislation that supports survivors of domestic violence.”
