The pandemic has had a devastating impact on domestic violence, making life extraordinarily difficult for survivors.

Sojourner President & CEO Carmen Pitre and Board Member Andrea Schneider, professor of law at Marquette University Law School and director for the institute for Women’s Leadership, are participating in a virtual discussion on Thursday, April 22, 2021, to explore these impacts.

When Safer-at-Home is Not Actually Safe: Supporting Intimate Partner Violence Survivors during Quarantine
Thursday, April 22, 2021 | noon – 1 p.m. CDT

Schneider created a research team to analyze the effect safer-at-home orders had on the prevalence of domestic abuse cases, and their impact on the wellness and mental health of survivors. Tune in to hear how this team, in partnership with Milwaukee County Circuit Court and Sojourner, is working toward improving services for survivors during the pandemic, to enhance court processes, and to guide best practices in advising workplaces on how to respond to intimate partner violence.

Schneider and Pitre will be joined by Marquette University’s Sameena Mulla, Associate Professor of Klingler College of Arts and Sciences; and Yaidelise Neris and Andrea Ortiz, students and research assistants with Klingler College of Arts & Sciences.

The program is free and open to the public. View Beyond MU’s upcoming programs.
