Kids find healing and hope through music

The song is called “Unstoppable,” which aptly describes the kids who wrote it.

Several of our young clients recently completed a 5-week program designed to use music composition to heal from trauma and to build hope and resilience. The kids, ages 10-14, collaborated with staff from Sojourner’s Children’s Program and H2O Community Development Corporation to write and record a song about overcoming obstacles and meeting goals.

Survivor Spotlight: Tasha’s story

Tasha called Sojourner’s 24-hour hotline in late 2020. She said that several weeks prior, she’d been sexually assaulted during a break-in.

Shine Your Light live! sneak preview

We’re gearing up for Shine Your Light live!, a virtual celebration and show of solidarity for domestic violence survivors on Shine Your Light Day, Thursday, Sept. 9.

The program, co-hosted by Sojourner President and CEO Carmen Pitre and Fox 6’s Kim Murphy, celebrates survivors and spreads hope to the 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men who have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner.

Camp HOPE 2021: A truly magical experience

Camp HOPE 2021 was nothing short of magical.

Camp HOPE is a weeklong, sleepaway camp hosted by Sojourner for children impacted by family violence. This year’s theme was Developing Dreams. Along with traditional summer camp activities (e.g., swimming, kayaking, archery, etc.), campers learned to build hope and resilience through an evidence-based curriculum to create a space where campers feel safe, seen, encouraged and loved. Over the week, campers learned to believe in themselves, others and in their dreams.

2020 Annual Report

As we reflect on 2020, we are filled with a deep sense of gratitude and pride.
